Yoga headstand

I used to be a gymnast | It was so much fun.  My favorite event was floor, because I loved dancing to the music and tumbling was just my favorite thing to do.  My dad recorded just about every single meet that I ever went to (Dad, you're amazing *tear*) and turned them into DVDs, so I go back to the good ol' days from time to time to reminisce.

Speaking of music, I love techno | Anyone who knows me knows I'm ob-SESSED with electronic music.  Seriously.  I could DJ a rave.  It started when I needed to pick out music for my floor routines in gymnastics, and the electronic songs were the ones I was always attracted to.  The obsession hasn't stopped.  I'll probably be the grandma blasting EDM from her Buick (err, Lexus?) in 50 years.

I used to play the electric guitar | Yep.  It was awesome.  I wasn't any good, and couldn't read music (I used Tabs).  I basically just played the same Led Zeppelin song over and over and over again until I mastered it.  But, I played.  I should probably dust that baby off sometime...

People misspell my name all the time | It's Ellyn - with a Y.  Not an E.  When I was a kid I was always in search of those little trinkets that have your name on them - stamps, keychains, pencils, etc.  Never once did I find an "Ellyn" with a Y.

I make faces | Lots of faces.  I guess I just have an expressive face, but I'm always reacting and responding to people with facial expressions.  It's not meant to be offensive or negative (apparently some people find it off-putting) - it's just... me.

I used to work in a sleep research lab | A what?  Hah, yes, before moving to upstate NY in 2015, I lived in Rhode Island for over 6 years and worked at a sleep research lab studying child & adolescent sleep and circadian rhythms.

There are things about my body I dislike | Just because I'm a fitness professional doesn't mean I don't have body issues.  I think just about everyone has at least one thing, no matter how small, that they wish they could change or tweak slightly.  For me, that's my derriere.  There, I said it.  Also, I'm pale, I sunburn easily, and no matter how bad I wish I could be tan, I'm not.  I've gotten over it (I think).

I hate running | Having exercise-induced bronchoconstriction makes it really difficult to do any cardio-respiratory exercises for an extended period of time.  Running the mile in school was the worst day ever.  I have no desire to run a marathon, half-marathon, or 5k.  I would like to try to run a mile again now that I'm more into fitness than I was back in high school, but only to see if I can beat 15-year-old me.

I'm still figuring things out as I go | I don't know where I'll be in the next 5 or 10 years.  I have an idea of where I'd like to be, but I'm still figuring things out in terms of how to get there.  I don't have all the answers, and I'm okay with that.  Some days it stresses me out, but I try to live in the moment as best I can and take things as they come.
