Fitness Friday 7/31: Walking Lap Finishers (+ A Personal Update)

Woo, it's Friday!  How was your week?  Mine's been pretty hectic to say the least (more details below).  Let's jump right to today's mini workout, shall we?  

I got this idea driving home from work the other day after hearing a few coworkers discuss how they wanted to start taking regular walks around the hospital campus where I work.  A lot of people I know make it a point to go outside on their lunch breaks or in the afternoon to walk.  That's fantastic!  What about you?  Do you add walks to your workday?  If so, try a few of these "finishers" each time you complete a lap around your building for some additional movement and muscle work.

Fitness Friday 7/31

After every lap around your building, do 1 of these exercises.  If time permits, do 3 laps to complete each exercise.  If you have more time, go through them again!

Standing Crossover Crunches - stand with your hands behind your head, elbows out.  Bring your opposite elbow to meet your opposite knee, using your abdominals to "crunch".  Quickly alternate between sides (like you're marching in place), keeping your chest up the entire time.  Do 30 reps.

Jump Lunges - start in a lunge position and propel yourself up into the air, switching legs mid-jump, and land back down in a lunge on the opposite side you started on.  Keep alternating jumps for 20 reps.

Side Plank Hip Dips - note: you might want to find a grassy area for these.  Start in a side plank either on your elbow or up on your hand.  Dip your hips down, keeping your feet stacked and shoulder over your elbow/wrist.  Now raise your hips up to slightly higher than starting position. Continue the dips for 10 reps on each side.

And now a personal update...

I want to quickly update you all on a few things that have been going on in my life lately.  I am finally taking steps to transition into the corporate wellness field full time and will be moving to Albany, NY in September to move in with my boyfriend.  I'm SUPER excited!!  

This of course means that there's a LOT of juggling to do with resumes, job applications, interviews, and apartment hunting (not to mention moving!), so my posts here might not be as frequent as they have been.  I will try my best to check in when I have news.  In the meantime, if you're in the need of a good workout or some healthy tips and motivation, feel free to browse some of my past posts below!  I hope to get back to regular blogging as soon as I can.  I hope you all have a great weekend and have some fun, active plans!
